Well, it's been a while since my last post. Things have been going on. BIG things.
This week I am working on the end of the year mural painting with our 5th graders. This is a chance for all our leaving students to leave a positive permanent mark on our school campus. The students really get up for it, and many of them have been asking when it would be their turn since watching last year's 5th graders do theirs.
This may be my favorite week of the school year:)
The design was inspired by a drawing one of our 5th graders did in class. I drew it out on the wall all day Monday and the kids have been painting it for the past 3 days in groups of 6 at a time. My goal is to be done by the end of the day tomorrow. I know we will be close...
Check out the progress.
This sounds like one of those weeks that reminds you why you do this—creative, meaningful, and full of pride. Giving 5th graders a chance to leave a permanent, positive mark is such a powerful way to close their chapter. I love that the mural came from a student’s own drawing; that kind of ownership sticks with them forever. The energy, anticipation, and teamwork you described really show how special this project is. Moments like these matter far more than deadlines—whether it’s a mural or even something stressful like deciding to Pay for dissertation, impact always outlasts pressure.
