year of the dragon. the super cool, entirely awesome dragon.

A couple weeks ago I introduced the 3rd graders to the work of Chinese artist Sofan Chan. We looked at a painting she did to celebrate Chinese New Year for 2012.

We talked about what made the painting more abstract than realistic and how Sofan used line and shape to give the painting some implied movement.

We drew our dragons out together, traced our contours, and then used tempera paint to add color. This was another painting done using the prang tempera cakes and I am still stoked about how well these work!
