fire day:(

Some people have snow days, while we have fire days.
School was canceled today due to the wildfires in San Diego county. For us, it was a precautionary measure. Our school is safe and our home is safe.

But this is horrible. Horrible for the people and animals directly impacted. Horrible for our region because this could get a whole lot worse as we roll into summer and early fall. That is when the fire risk is at it's highest out here. San Diego county has gotten 4 inches of rain on the year and we don't expect to get much beyond that.

I was looking at the dry, brown slopes of Mt. Miguel as I drove to school today and remembered them being in flames 7 years ago. San Diego is a beautiful place, but we need rain so desperately...

As I mentioned above, I did go into school for a little while today. I needed to get a bunch of clay pieces outside to air dry, so I can fire them and have kids glaze them next week. The dry is bad for the region, but it's great to get clay ready for the kiln.

I also went in to work on a banner for our school's participation in a Filipino festival this weekend.

That is all.
Back to our regularly scheduled programming tomorrow.

Stay safe.
Shine brite.

Got the okay to load these birdies, but not to turn the kiln on.

  1. So sorry to hear about this. I thought from your post title you were firing up the kiln. I hope your community remains out of harms way

  4. We were evacuated Tuesday, and our schools closed Thursday and Friday. Colleagues are evacuating their homes. Stay safe - fire can happen anywhere/anytime in the county.
